May I suggest creating a spritz of Mezcal or even Lagavulin for an added smoky layer to the cocktail? I’m telling you, you will LOVE IT. A corpse reviver was designed to revive the corpse of a hungover citizen, to wake him up and give him. This cocktail has come up before at The Kitchn, when Nora mentioned in it her post on top 5 intriguing cocktail names. Now if you TRULY hate Absinthe, that’s okay, omit it from the cocktail. Indeed and an excellent expression of these morning cocktails is the tart, sweet, summery sipper the Corpse Reviver 2. You have the typical culprits of Cointreau and Lillet, fresh blackberries, lemon and a dash of absinthe. It’s actually quite simple to construct, and doesn’t require a ton of prep work! For a Gin, I went with Dillon’s Cherry Gin because it’s truly an exceptional product, plus I knew it would lend well to the blackberry flavours. With LC though, I always try to keep an open mind and during my research for the Halloween Special Cocktails, I knew I HAD to shake this up. What’s not to like? But the thing is, since I boycotted Absinthe for a long time in my life, I never really gave this cocktail the time of day. The Corpse Reviver No.2 fell into disuse over the years. The Corpse Reviver No.2 was a Prohibition-era cocktail. Although this is the most well-known recipe, the Corpse Reviver No.1 (cognac and sweet vermouth, Calvados) is still in production today. You’ve got Gin, you’ve got sour AND you have Lillet Blanc. The origins of Corpse Revivers can be traced back at least to the 1870s. The first published use of the term Corpse Reviver as a hangover remedy dates from 1861, and lots of versions were invented.
